There are so many things to do in the area that are unique to Renfrew Collingwood, especially during the summer and fall. Some are simple, such as enjoying the sights and sounds of nature or enjoying a delicious, hearty meal at a local restaurant. Others are special annual events celebrating the different cultures that call Renfrew Collingwood home. Here are five things fun things to do whether you want to enjoy the warm summer or check out the fall festivals:

Explore the area on Renfrew Collingwood’s bike paths

The Central Valley Greenway bike path, one of the neighbourhood’s main pathways, is a 25km bike and pedestrian greenway that follows the Millennium SkyTrain line from Vancouver to New Westminster. It offers majestic views of Still Creek and a quick and healthy way to traverse the city. Drive through a peaceful stretch of trees or pass by the many shops and restaurants in this area. Along this 1.5-hour bike path, you’ll find Burnaby Lake, a regional park and wildlife sanctuary with lots of space for picnics, boat rentals, and even a museum!

Dine at one of the neighbourhood’s longest standing restaurants

Located near the Italian Cultural Centre, La Piazza Dario has been a neighbourhood favourite for over 30 years. Run by Italian immigrants, it’s no surprise that regulars continuously rave about the menu’s authenticity. Reviews of this restaurant highlight its authentic taste, exquisite atmosphere, and exemplary service. From the kinds of pasta to the meats, the wines, and the desserts, eating at Piazza Dario is guaranteed to be an excellent dining experience!

Experience Greek culture at Vancouver Summer Greekfest

For almost two weeks around the end of June, Renfrew Collingwood’s Greek community holds its annual summer Greekfest at Boundary and East 29th Avenue. The event celebrates the best of Greek food, music, and culture. Cultural dance groups are showcased on the main stage, and festival goers can enjoy delicious traditional Greek dishes like chicken souvlaki, spanakopita, and baklava. Weekend evenings end to the beats of traditional Greek bouzouki music.

Have a picnic and watch a movie at the Collingwood International Film Festival

Watching a movie under the stars sounds like a perfect summer activity, and it’s even better when it’s free! The Collingwood Business Improvement Association and the Collingwood Policing Centre have joined forces to host a summer outdoor movie series every year, showcasing films from different countries. People gather at one of the neighbourhood’s public parks— like Gaston Park, Aberdeen Park, and Collingwood Park— to enjoy the warm summer evening. It’s the perfect outing in the summer to hang with friends or go on a date.

Celebrate the fall season at Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival

Held on the Saturday closest to the eighth full moon of the year (called the harvest moon), this annual event celebrates the arts, the community, and the environment. It begins with a harvest fair during the day, where people can play games, eat food, make crafts, and more. Then as day turns to dusk, the giant moon lantern is raised at Slocan Park, starting the Twilight Lantern Walk that goes along the ravine. The festival ends with music, dancing, and a blast of colorful fireworks.
